Duke Nelson Invitational Final Team and Player Leaderboard (PDF)
The New York University men's golf team claimed victory in the Duke Nelson Invitational at the Ralph Myhre Golf Course in Middlebury, VT. The two-day tournament took place over Saturday and Sunday, September 14-15.
After shooting 291 on day one, Violets continued their strong play into Sunday by shooting 288 (tied for the second-lowest round in team history) and giving them a two-day total of 579. Williams College finished in second place with 589, while host Middlebury College ended in third with a score of 590.
Robbie Keyes (Louisville, KY/duPont Manual) had an outstanding day en route to a second-place finish, tied for the second-best round in team history. After finishing the first day tied for 18th, Keyes shot three-under-par 68 on Sunday, giving him a two-day score of 143. Also playing well on Sunday were
Chris Lee (Palisades Park, NJ/Bergen Catholic) and
Alan Chen (Freemont, CA/Mission San Jose), both of whom rose several spots on the leader board. Lee was also tied for 18th after round one, but finished tied for eighth after shooting one-under-par 70 today and 145 overall. Chen, meanwhile, managed to sneak into the top 10 after shooting one-over-par 72 on Sunday for a final score of 146.
"Robbie put together an incredible round today," said Head Coach
Brad Johnson. "Chris and Alan also came through today which really helped us secure the victory."
Rounding out the Violets' squad were
Joseph Burlison (Salinas, CA/Palma) at eight-over-par 150,
Christian Wentzel (San Clemente, CA/Montverde Academy) with 151, and
Matt Shen (Honolulu, HI/Punahou School) at 155.
Overall, 23 teams and 118 golfers participated.
"As a team we had some great learning opportunities this week," added Johnson. "I'm hoping these experiences will help us moving forward."
The Violets will be back in action next Saturday, September 21, when they compete in day one of the Williams College Fall Invitational at the Taconic Golf Course in Williamstown, MA.
