Final Results
The New York University women's tennis team defeated Washington University in St. Louis 5-4 and finished in fifth place at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship, which was held Thursday-Saturday, April 25-27, in Altamonte Springs, FL.
Washington is ranked 18th by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), while NYU is ranked 21st.
Saturday's action began with doubles play, with the Violets winning two of the three matches. 
Fleura Shiyanova and 
Coco Kulle won the #1 match 8-5, and 
Rupa Ganesh and 
Kate Shaffer won the #3 match 8-4.
"The teams battled for almost five hours with momentum swings back and forth," said Head Coach 
Horace Choy. "I am very proud of the fight the women showed."
The singles matches were hotly contested. The Violets took two of the first four matches with Kulle winning at #2 1-6, 6-2, 6-3, and Ganesh winning at #4 6-2, 6-4. 
Fleura Shiyanova dropped the #3 singles match, a close three-setter, setting up a 4-4 tie.
The #5, and deciding singles match, went down to the wire. 
Judy Kam took the first set 6-3, but lost the second 7-5. The third set went to a 6-6 tiebreaker and Kam came out on top 7-6 (10-8) and clinched the 5-4 win for the Violets.
"Judy showed a lot of heart in her match coming back from a 1-5 deficit and saving five match points, including two in the tiebreaker," Choy exclaimed. "I'm happy the season ended on a positive note and I want to acknowledge the seniors for all that they have given to our program."
This concludes the women's tennis season, with the Violets having posted a 10-2 record.
