Violets Defeated in First Round of UAA Championship

OFFICIAL RESULTS (PDF)

The New York University women's tennis was defeated by Carnegie Mellon University 5-0 in the quarterfinals of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship on Thursday, April 25, in Altamonte Springs, FL.

In doubles play, the fifth-seeded Violets lost all three matches to the fourth-seeded Tartans. Coco Kulle and Fleura Shiyanova fell in the #1 match 8-4, and Anna Maria Buraya and Judy Kam fell in the #2 match 8-5.

Carnegie Mellon earned two victories in singles play to secure the win. After a tight first set, Buraya fell 7-5, 6-0 in #1 singles, and Rupa Ganesh lost 6-0, 6-3 in the #4 match. The other matches were all left unfinished.

"Carnegie Mellon is a great team," said Head Coach Horace Choy. "We were competitive, but they played some of the bigger points better than we did in doubles and carried that momentum right over to singles."

The Violets return to the court tomorrow, April 26, when they take on eighth-seeded University of Rochester at 12:30 PM.
