Official Results vs. TCNJ
The New York University women's tennis team, currently ranked #13 in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), defeated #23 The College of New Jersey 6-3 on Saturday, March 16, in Ewing, NJ.
The Violets, now 6-0 this season, got off to a slow start by losing two of the three doubles' matches, but came on strong to take five of the six singles' contests to defeat the previously-unbeaten Lions (6-1).
After
Judy Kam and
Ana Leonard won the only doubles (#3) match for NYU, it was up to the singles' players to keep the Violets' unbeaten streak going.
Kam (#4 singles) and Leonard (#6) kept their momentum going by winning their singles' matches in straight sets.
Fleura Shiyanova (#2) and
Rupa Ganesh (#3), despite losing in doubles, rebounded to also take their singles' matches in straight sets.
Kate Shaffer was tested at #5 singles, but came out on top in a three-set match.
"It was a good team win for us," said Head Coach
Horace Choy. "We had players step up with big performances and wins where needed after TCNJ got off to a strong start."
The Violets are now on a three-week hiatus until they return to the court on Saturday, April 6, against #20 Brandeis University in Waltham, MA.
