The New York University men's fencing team opened its 2017-18 dual-meet season with a 21-6 victory over Stevens Institute of Technology on Monday, November 13. NYU hosted the competition in the Rosenthal Pavilion at the Kimmel Center, which overlooks Washington Square Park in Manhattan's Greenwich Village.
The Violets (1-0) were dominant in both foil and sabre, winning both weapons by identical 8-1 scores. The Ducks (5-4) were much more competitive in epee, as the Violets eked out a 5-4 win.
NYU All-American senior
Philip Shin went 2-1 in foil, while junior
Kyle Welch and freshman
Zohaib Mannan each went 2-0.
NYU's other current junior All-American,
Grant Williams, and junior
Mickey Bak each went a perfect 2-0 in sabre. Newcomer
Zachary Schindler won all three of his bouts in the weapon.
Leading the way in epee was sophomore
Alexandre Crepeaux (2-0) and senior
Hans Engel (2-1).
