Men’s Swimming Breaks More Pool Records at NYU Invite

Violets Finish First in Two-Day Competition

Co-captain Jerry Crowley broke two records during the second day of competition.

Final Results

New York University's men's swimming team beat its three opponents at the NYU Invitational, which the squad hosted on Friday and Saturday, November 7-8, at the Palladium Athletic Facility (PAF) in Manhattan.

The Violets finished the quad-meet in first place (1,045 points). Stevens Institute of Technology followed in second (935), SUNY New Paltz placed third (507) and Arcadia University finished in fourth (403).

Senior co-captain Jerry Crowley broke two pool records during the second day of the meet when he won the 100-yard butterfly (49.66) and the 100-yard freestyle (44.81). The previous records were 50.42 and 46.11, respectively. Crowley set the previous freestyle record during the 2013-14 season, and the butterfly record was set in the 2009-10 season by Bloomsburg University's Juan Castan

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Freshman Austin Palmer broke the 400 individual medley with his time of 4:08.82, breaking the previous pool record of 4:11.90 which was set by Stevens Tech swimmer Joshua Lefeber in the 2013-14 season.

- The 200-yard medley relay pool record (1:34.85) was also broken by Crowley, freshman Adam Betts, freshman Chad Moody, and senior co-captain Matt Kendall with their time of 1:34.72. The previous record was set last season by The College of New Jersey.

- Moody and Crowley also participated on the record-breaking 400-yard freestyle relay team, along with freshman Joe Baron and junior Win Htet Oo. The team broke the previous record of 3:10.44, which was set in the 2013-14 season, with their time of 3:08.21.

- The 800-yard freestyle relay team won its race with a pool record-breaking time of 7:00.51. Palmer participated on this team along with sophomore Ethan Louie, sophomore Jason Bo and sophomore Max Phillips.

"I was incredibly impressed with the performance of our team this weekend," said Head Coach Trevor Miele. "Despite a tough week of practice, they were able to get up and race and post some very fast times. I am very encouraged by their progress, and I am looking forward to them posting more fast times in a few weeks at ECAC Championships."

The Violets will compete in a dual meet against The College of New Jersey on Saturday, November 15, in Ewing, NJ. Competition is set to begin at 2:00pm.
