Men's Swimming and Diving Climb to Third After Day Two of National Championships

The New York University men's swimming and diving team continued its final meet of the season on Thursday, March 19, at the 2026 NCAA Division III Championships.

The meet is hosted by Franklin College at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, IN.

After nine events, the Violets are in third place with 169 points.

"The men came out firing right from the start," said Head Swimming Coach Trevor Miele. "Seeing two of our guys battle it our in the 400 IM was legendary, and we're looking forward to the rest of the weekend."

The Violet men scored their first National Championship of the week in the 400-yard individual medley (IM), as Max Nechydyuk (3:47.86) swam down teammate Conner Dean (3:48.03) on the freestyle leg to take the first National Championship of his career. Nechydyuk was the runner-up in the event in 2025.

"It's tough that one of them had to lose, but it was an incredible head-to-head and an outstanding 1–2 finish," said Miele.

Both earned All-America honors for their swims. Victor Derani (3:53.74) and Sebastien Wenger (3:56.04) were designated to the All-America Second Team after qualifying for the consolation final.

In the first event of the night session, Pierce Downs (1:37.34) won the consolation final of the 200 freestyle and earned All-America Second Team.

Teddy McQuaid (47.96) and Leo Han (48.39) earned All-America Second Team honors in the 100 butterfly consolation final.
The team closed out Thursday night with an All-American swim in the 200 freestyle relay. Teddy Cross, Downs, Stone Miller, and Greg Wehbe clocked in at 1:18.67, missing out on second place by just 0.04 seconds.

Day Three of the competition kicks off on Friday morning at 10:00 AM EST with preliminary races and dives, followed by the evening finals, which begin at 6:00 PM.
