The New York University women's track and field team had a solid performance at the annual Sean McElligot Invitational at Haverford College in Haverford, PA on Saturday, February 4.
The Violets' mile runners stole the show as
Alyssa Binczyk, who head coach Nick McDonough described as being "probably our best mile runner," led the way with a time of 5:19.84, good enough for a sixth-place finish. Binczyk's performance in the mile also marked a season best for her.
Teammates
Izzi Corso and
Emily Cousens were nipping at her heels, finishing seventh (5:23.85) and 12th (5:27.53), respectively.
"I was impressed with the way Emily returned coming off of a significant injury that dated back to cross country season," McDonough said.
Audrey Vera also had a pretty solid performance in the 3,000 meter run, finishing with a time of 11:06.36 and an eighth-place finish.
Shot-putter
Vanessa Ortiz notched a fifth-place finish (10.42 meters).
In what was an out-of-the-ordinary weekend for the Violets, McDonough was generally pleased with the performance of his squad.
"Some athletes competed at the Armory on Friday and some at Haverford on Saturday. We used the Haverford meet as more of a tune-up for next weekend's meet in Boston," McDonough explained.
McDonough was alluding to next weekend's Boston University Valentines Invitational, which will take place on Friday and Saturday, February 10-11.
