The New York University wrestling team went 1-1 in duals against Yeshiva University and Hunter College on Tuesday night, November 22, in the Jerome S. Coles Sports Center.
 
NYU had an impressive showing in both duals, defeating Yeshiva 45-6 and falling to Hunter by a score of 29-13. Both David Rice (165) and Gregg  (174) continued their stellar seasons as NYU improved its record to 2-3. Rice won by decision against Jesse Capello-Colon of Hunter, while Martino recorded a pin against Yashiva's Mike Albert and a major decision against Hunter. Both wrestlers are ranking nationally as individuals.
 
In their first match, NYU dominated Yeshiva 45-6, recording five pins and one decision.
 
“We handled our business [against Yeshiva],” said head coach Bruce Haberli.
 
Hunter proved to be a tough competitor in the second dual, as NYU came up short 29-13. Each bout was tightly contested, but two major decisions and two pins proved to be too much for NYU to overcome. Pat Sheehan capped off an impressive day with a decision win against Hunter to go with his pin in the Yashiva dual.
 
“We got off to a good start, but we just didn't finish the way we would've liked to,” said Haberli. “It's a disappointing loss, but we'll rebound.”
 
Hunter and Yeshiva also competed in a dual against each other with Hunter prevailing 38-10.
 
NYU returns to the mats December 3 for the Ted Reese Invitational in Gorham, ME.
