Cooper Pontelandolfo of the New York University wrestling team has fought his way to a fourth All-American honor, and has his eyes now on a national championship.
The senior wrestler out of Marlton, N.J., continued his historic run on Friday at the NCAA Divison III National Championships, hosted at the Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence, R.I., as the three seed in the 157 weight class.
Pontelandolfo recorded two wins on the first day of competition Friday after earning a bye through the opening round. After scoring a 2-0 decision over Stevens' Ryan Smith, Pontelandolfo is set to meet seven-seed Tyler Goebel from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
"[Cooper] works so hard and has deserved every moment," said Associate Head Coach
Corey Luce. "But, I know he's not satisfied and will be ready to bring it in the semifinals."
