A trio of New York University student-athletes have earned University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week accolades.
Marlee Scanlon of the Violets' women's soccer team,
Jackson McCloskey of the men's team and
Grace Nelson of the women's volleyball team were all honored.
Scanlon had an outstanding week as the Violets won all three of their matches. She had two goals and an assist in NYU's 5-0 win over William Paterson on Wednesday. Scanlon produced the game-winning goal against #23 Vassar in the Violets' 2-1 victory on Saturday. She added a team-leading four shots in NYU's 2-0 victory over Sarah Lawrence on Sunday.
NYU is now 6-1-1 this season.
Nelson had a terrific weekend as NYU won two of its three volleyball matches at the Ithaca College Invitational on Friday and Saturday. In the Violets' first match, a 3-1 loss to #20 Ithaca on Friday, she had a season-high 19 kills on a .359 hitting percentage, to go with nine digs, two blocks, and an assist. In Saturday's matches she had 11 kills (.429), eight aces, two assists, five digs, and a block in NYU's 3-0 win vs. Smith, then totaled 18 kills (.289), a season-high 17 digs, four aces, and a block in a 3-1 victory over Swarthmore.
For the week, Nelson totaled 48 kills (4.36 per set) on .347 hitting to go with 12 service aces, three assists, 31 digs, and four blocks.
McCloskey posted a shutout in the Violets' only match last week, a 0-0 tie at Drew University on Saturday. The Violets' goalkeeper faced four shots and turned them all aside.
It was McCloskey's first shutout of the season.
