NYU Teams and Athletes Earn Academic Honors

Men's & Women's Volleyball, Men's & Women's Tennis, Men's & Women's Track & Field, Men's & Women's Cross Country, Baseball and Women's Basketball Honored

The New York University men's and women's volleyball teams, men's and women's track & field teams, men's and women's cross country teams, baseball team, and women's basketball team have earned several academic awards for their stellar performances in the classroom. 

Both the men's and women's volleyball teams earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Academic Team Award, given to teams who maintained a grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.3 on a 4.0 scale during the 2024-25 academic year. Additionally, the two squads were the 2024-25 NYU Athletics GPA champions for men's and women's teams, respectively. 

Men's and women's tennis both received the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team distinction and had several individual scholar-athletes. Ryan Lyn, Louis Frowein, Jingyuan Chen, Cooper Kline, Devan Sbapathy, Zachary Freier, and Bryan Hui were ITA Scholar-Athletes on the men's side, and Diana Pujals, Jimena Menendez, Isabella Hartman, Aditi Narayan, Maria Salamao, Aileen Yu, Norah Staunton, Emma Kast, Kendall Kamerschen, Hannah Chang, and Siona Vallabhaneni made the grade for the women. 

The men's track & field team had seven U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Athletes and was named an All-Academic Team. Individual All-Academic Athletes included Julian Aske, Jeffrey Chen, Jon Diaz, Alex Hrycyszn, Evan Sherman, Andy Taylor, and Ryan Tobin. The women's track & field squad was also named an All-Academic Team and tallied six All-Academic Athletes: Kate Cochran, Gianna Dawson, Josephine Dziedzic, Lucy Gott, Beverly Okyere, and Grace Rowley

The men's and women's cross country teams were also named USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams and had a total of eight individual All-Academic Athletes. On the men's side, Chen, Sherman, Taylor, Tobin, and Shaurya Srivastava were honored, while Cochran, Gott, and Daniela Sekhar were honored on the women's side. 

Baseball earned the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Sports Attack Team Academic Excellence Award, which is given to teams which achieve a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00 or higher on a 4.0 scale during the academic year. 

Women's basketball rounded out the awards as a Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Academic Special Mention. The WBCA recognizes the top GPAs for all teams in Division III. The Violets had a team GPA of 3.693, good for top-35 in the nation.
