Oscar Uribe led the way for NYU with a five-under 67, the lowest round of the day among 35 competitors, while Jomyuth Luangtana-anan followed with a three-under 69 to sit tied for second.
Qi (Steven) Liu and Tanmay Chandra each finished at even-par 72 and are tied for eighth to round out the Violets' scoring lineup, while George Zhou posted a four-over 76.
NYU holds a strong lead heading into the second round, with Skidmore in second at three-over.
The Violets will return to action on Saturday at 12 p.m. for the second round of the Liberty League Championship.
