The New York University women's tennis team wrapped up its New England road trip with a 5–2 loss to Wellesley College on Sunday afternoon.
The defeat marks NYU's second straight loss and brings the Violets to 6–5 on the season.
Wellesley took early control by sweeping all three doubles matches to earn the opening point.
In singles, Jimena Menendez delivered NYU's first point with a gritty three-set win at the top spot, winning 6–4, 1–6, 6–2. The Violets' second point came from Isabella Hartman, who secured a straight-sets victory at No. 2 singles, 6–4, 6–4.
Norah Staunton pushed her match at No. 4 singles to the limit and nearly forced a tiebreak in the third before eventually falling 7–6, 2–6, 7–5. The rest of the lineup was unable to break through.
"It was a tough weekend as far as results, but we were right there in both matches," said head coach Horace Choy. "There's definitely a learning curve when it comes to closing out matches and staying consistent. We'll get there. This weekend really showed us what we need to work on before heading into conference play."
NYU returns home next Sunday, April 13, to host the University of Rochester on Senior Day at the Stadium Tennis Center in the Bronx. First serve is set for 1:00 PM.
