The New York University men's swimming and diving team returned to action in Greensboro, NC, for the second day of the 2025 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships on Thursday, March 20.
With 18 events complete at the Greensboro Aquatic Center, the Violets moved up the leaderboard to fourth place with 121.5 total points.
The 200 freestyle relay team capped the night with a new NYU program record, taking a second-place finish. The foursome of Pierce Downs, Ajay Watanakun, Derek Young and Greg Wehbe clocked in at 1:19.03 for the silver in the final race of the evening session and earned All-America honors.
"The men's 200 free relay delivered the highlight of their meet so far, smashing the team record and charging from sixth to second," said Head Coach Trevor Miele. "An incredible effort from all four guys."
Maksym Nechydyuk began the evening with a silver, taking second place in the 400 yard individual medley with an All-American effort and a 3:49.45 time. Victor Derani and Jaeden-Hans Yburan received All-American Honorable Mentions, placing ninth and 16th respectively.
"Max had a hard fought race in the 400 IM, going head-to-head in a tight battle before just missing out at the finish," said Miele. "I have no doubt he'll be back next year to take the win. Victor also had a strong swim in the consolation final, securing ninth with a personal best."
Pierce Downs represented the Violets in the 200 freestyle consolation finals, taking tenth overall with a 1:38.07 time. He also earned All-America Honorable Mention recognition.
"Pierce put together a fantastic swim, taking it out aggressively and holding on to climb from 14th to 10th," said Miele.
The Violets head into day three with competition continuing tomorrow with the preliminary session beginning at 10:00 a.m. and the finals session set to start at 6:00 p.m.
