The New York University men's swimming team took to the pool in Greensboro, NC, for the 2025 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships on Wednesday, March 19.
Competition spans Wednesday through Saturday, with preliminary rounds taking place in the morning sessions and final events during the evening sessions. A total of six Violets qualified to compete in the eight final events that occurred Wednesday evening based on their performances in the morning.
After five completed events, the Violets sit in sixth place overall with 49 team points.
"We had a strong start to the meet with impressive performances across the board, including record-breaking swims and hard-fought relay efforts," said Head Coach Trevor Miele. "The team competed at a high level and set a great tone for the rest of the meet."
In the 500-yard freestyle championship final, Connor Vincent took 4th place in 4:24.57, securing All-America honors.
"Connor had an impressive back half to secure fourth place," said Miele.
Maksym Nechydyuk and Jaeden-Hans Yburan competed in the championship heat of the 200-yard individual medley, with Nechydyuk taking 6th place with a time of 1:47.68 and Yburan coming in 7th in 1:47.75. Both Nechydyuk and Yburan earned All-America status for their performances.
The men's 400-yard medley relay team of Teddy McQuaid, Nechydyuk, Leo Han, and Pierce Downs beat out the MIT team by just one one-hundredth of a second to take second place in the consolation final. Their 3:14.19 time earned each of them Second Team All-America recognition.
"The men also had a solid swim in the 400y medley relay, highlighted by Teddy's phenomenal lead-off backstroke leg," said Miele. "His 47.1 leg was outstanding and sets him up well for the individual events."
The team begins day two of the competition Thursday at 10 a.m. with the 400-yard individual medley, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, and 200-yard freestyle relay events.
