New York University's men's and women's diving teams wrapped up the NCAA Regional Championships on Saturday, March 1, in Springfield, MA, with the women's 3-meter and men's 1-meter events.
Regionals are held to determine which divers will qualify for the 2025 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships.
Qualifiers are set to be announced on March 3.
Issara Schmidt won the women's 3-meter dive with a total score of 488.30, a personal record. On the first day of competition, on Friday, she placed second in the 1-meter dive.
She is likely to secure a spot at the National Championships.
"
Issara Schmidt was amazing, winning the 3-meter," Head Diving Coach
Todd Kolean said. "It was a long and hard event."
Maya Williams placed fifth with 456.25 points,
Meera Kasturi came in 11th with 430.60, and
Isabella Reyes and
Katherine Taylor finished 16th and 17th, with 413.00 and 406.10 total points, respectively.
"First-year divers Kat Taylor and Isa Reyes had great performances," Kolean said. "
Meera Kasturi was great, but missed her very last dive to miss the cut.
Maya Williams put together a great meet. We believe she made the national meet, but it won't be official until Monday."
The men competed in the 1-meter dive, and
William Hopkins placed eighth with a total of 418.40 points.
"Will Hopkins dove very well in his last NYU meet," Kolean said. "They only take five men out to nationals and Will ended up eighth."
NYU's qualifieds divers will return to the pool on March 19-22 in Greensboro, NC, for the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships.
