New York University's men's and women's swimming & diving teams hosted the final day of the NYU Winter Invitational on Saturday, February 22.
The two-day, non-team scoring event, was held at the Palladium Athletic Facility Natatorium in Manhattan.
Emery Muller and
Katherine Steinmeier each dropped time and moved up in the national rankings, helping their chances of competing at the NCAA Championships.
Bethany Spangler time-trialed the 200 butterfly, swimming fast enough to qualify for the NCAA's.
Leo Han earned a B cut in the 200 backstroke time trial.
Oliver Engel was victorious in the 500 freestyle with his best time this season, while also capturing the 200 freestyle.
Youngsoo Ahn-Song set a personal record in the 200 breaststroke.
Bryan Manheimer and
Sean Li each earned personal bests in the 100 freestyle.
"We had a great meet with numerous best times and several NCAA cuts," said Head Swimming Coach
Trevor Miele. "These performances will undoubtedly strengthen our position in the NCAA selection process this week. We're excited to see our athletes compete at the NCAA Championships and look forward to strong performances on the national stage."
The divers did not compete on Friday, but took to the boards on Saturday as
Issara Schmidt set a new program record in the 11-dive 1-meter competition with a winning point total of 541.80. That broke the old mark of 530.95 set by Carmen While during the 2016-17 season.
William Hopkins won the men's six-dive 1-meter with a total of 340.75 points.
"It was a great warm-up meet for our regional championships next weekend," said Head Diving Coach
Todd Kolean. "Everyone dove exceptionally well, led by Issara's record-breaking performance."
The divers next compete at the NCAA Regional Championships on Friday and Saturday, February 28-March 1, in Springfield, MA, while qualified swimmers and divers are back in the pool for the NCAA Division III Championships Wednesday-Saturday, March 19-22, in Greensboro, NC.
