The University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships continued for the New York University men's swimming and diving team on Friday, February 14, hosted by Emory University in Atlanta, GA.
The Violets are in second place after three days of competition, with 1112.5 points. They trail host Emory, who has 1168 points.
Maksym Nechydyuk won the 400-yard individual medley, with Victor Derani placing second.
"The guys came out strong with a dominant 1-2 finish," said Head Swimming Coach Trevor Miele. "Max controlled the race from the start, and Victor had an incredible back half to move up to second."
Kevin Wu placed third in the 200-yard freestyle.
"Kevin had a huge swim in the 200, dropping a ton of time and attacking it from start to finish," said Miele. "He's looking great, and I can't wait to see what he does at NCAAs."
Teddy McQuaid came in second place in the 100-yard backstroke, only 0.4 seconds behind first.
"Teddy put together an outstanding 100 back, starting fast, crushing his underwaters, and closing strong," said Miele. "Just a fantastic performance."
The Violets' 200-yard medley relay team of McQuaid, Nechydyuk, Ajay Watanakun, and Greg Wehbe placed second to close out the night.
"It was a hard-fought second-place finish, setting us up well for what's ahead," said Miele.
William Hopkins and Mitchell Mortenson came in third and sixth in the 3-meter dive, respectively.
"Mitchell was a little better in the prelims, but Will chose a good day to have his best UAA ever," said Head Diving Coach Todd Kolean.
The last day of the championships is Saturday, February 15, at Emory, as the Violets pursue their first-ever UAA title.
