The
#5th ranked New York University women's cross country team took first place in the College White 6k Race at the Paul Short Invite, hosted by Lehigh University on Friday, October 3, in Bethlehem, PA.
Four of the top five Violets finished in the top-12 individually, totaling to a 55-point team score. University Athletic Association foe Carnegie Mellon took second place with a 157 total.
NYU's
Ashlyn Pallotta and
Josephine Dziedzic were neck and neck to the finish, placing fourth (20:45.7) and fifth (20:49.5), respectively.
Olivia Jackson (21:32.9) and
Lucy Gott (21:35.4), paced each other to consecutive 14th- and 15th-place finishes.
Daniela Sekhar rounded out the scoring places in 17th with a 21:36.0 time.
Emily Castles (22:01.1),
Lindsay Guthrie (22:40.1),
Eliza Dickie (22:50.3), and
Katharine Frank (22:50.9) also competed for the Violets in the White Race.
Overall, 45 teams and 404 runners competed.
In the Open 6K Race, the Violets sent out five freshmen, with two competing in their first 6K:
Paisley Piepgras and Ainara Schube Barriola. All five of the NYU runners beat or tied their previous personal bests.
All five of the racers finished in the top 250 places, with 442 racers competing (there was no team scoring). The top time of the morning for NYU belonged to
Isabel Liu, as she placed 86th with a time of 22:50:40. Piepgras (22:52.7) and
Sophie Liu (22:56.3), were NYU's second and third finishers.
"We are really proud of the efforts the team had today," said Head Coach
Tyler Deck Shipley. "We looked like a complete squad and look forward to getting back to work over the next couple weeks."
The Violets hit the course next on Saturday, October 18, at the Connecticut College Invitational hosted by Connecticut College in Waterford, CT.
