New York University's top-ranked women's cross country team traveled to Indianapolis, IN, on Saturday, September 21, to compete in the John McNichols Invitational hosted by Indiana State University.
The 6 kilometer event included nearly over 450 athletes. NYU was joined in the field by UAA competitors Washington University in St. Louis and the University of Chicago, as well as numerous NCAA Division I competitors. The Violets took third with 96 points and an average time of 22:21 in the 23-team field. The Violets finished behind second-place #2-ranked Chicago (90 points), but aead of sixth-place #8-ranked WashU (121 points).
Janie Cooper placed first for the Violets with a personal-best time of 21:52.6 and finished 19th overall.
Josephine Dziedzic took 40th place with a time of 22:22.2, while Lucy Gott clocked 22:24.9 and finished 43rd.
Rounding out the Violets' top-five finishers were Olivia Jackson and Katherine Cochran in 53rd and 54th, respectively. Jackson crossed the line in 22:43.0 and Cochran posted a 22:35.7 finish.
Daniela Sekhar notched a personal best with her 22:44.5 finish, taking 63rd place overall.
NYU returns to action in two weeks when they travel to Bethlehem, PA, to compete in the Lehigh University Paul Short Invitational on Saturday, October 5.
