The New York University men's cross country team, ranked #18 in NCAA Division III, traveled to Indianapolis, IN, to compete in the John McNichols Invitational hosted by Indiana State University on Saturday, September 21.
The 8 kilometer event included nearly 30 teams and over 450 athletes. NYU was joined in the field by University Athletic Association (UAA) competitors Washington University in St. Louis and the University of Chicago, as well as numerous NCAA Division I competitors.
The Violets placed fifth with 144 points and an average time of 25:06 in the 27-team field. The team bested both UAA competitors with WashU taking ninth with 268 points and the University of Chicago placing 11th with 304 points.
NYU's Ryan Tobin finished first for the squad, placing 23rd with a time of 24:56.4.
Close behind him was grad transfer Evan Sherman who clocked 24:58.9 to take 28th place.
Sophomore transfer Liam Hagerty posted a 32nd-place finish, crossing the line in 25:03.5.
Jeffrey Chen took 36th in 25:06.8, and rounding out the Violets' top-five finishers was Andrew Taylor with a 25:29.8, 65th-place performance.
NYU returns to action in two weeks when the squad travels to Bethlehem, PA, to compete in the Lehigh University Paul Short Invitational on Saturday, October 5.
