Three New York University student-athletes have been named University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week after strong performances over the past weekend.
Theodore Udelson-Nee of the men's cross country team,
Kaley McIntyre of the women's swimming & diving team, and
Maksym Nechydyuk of the men's swimming & diving team all received the honor.
Udelson-Nee was NYU's top finisher at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship in Spartenburg, SC, on Saturday. He earned All-America honors with his 31st-place finish, the highest of any UAA runner in the race. His time of 24:33.8 over the 8K course helped lead NYU to a fourth-place national finish, the program's best since another fourth-place finish in 2009.
McIntyre won each of the seven events in which she competed as the NYU women's swimming & diving team finished in first place at the Phoenix Fall Classic in Chicago over the weekend. Individually, McIntyre won the 100-yard freestyle in an NCAA Division III record time of 48.13. She also won the 50-yard freestyle (22.66) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.11). McIntyre swam on NYU's program record-breaking 100-yard freestyle relay (48.13), as well the victorious 400-yard medley relay (3:42.27), 400-yard freestyle relay (3:19.94), and 800-yard freestyle relay (7:23.95). Her performance helped the Violets accumulate 2,779.5 team points, far ahead of second-place Washington University in St. Louis (1,940.5).
Nechydyuk was instrumental to the NYU men's swimming & diving team also finishing in first place at the Phoenix Fall Classic. Individually, Nechydyuk won the 200-yard breaststroke (1:58.12), the 400-yard IM (3:49.12) and the 200- yard IM (1:47.19). He was also a member of the Violets' first-place 200-yard medley relay (1:27.65). Nechydyuk swam on three of NYU's second-place relays: 800-yard freestyle relay (6:39.04), 400-yard freestyle relay (2:57.14) and the 400-yard medley relay (3:15.06). His performance helped the Violets accumulate 2,697 team points, well ahead of second-place Washington University in St. Louis (1,906.5).
Each of these three student-athletes have won the UAA weekly award twice this season.
