The New York University men's cross country team,
ranked #6 in the nation, finished in second place at the NCAA Niagara Regional on Saturday, November 15, in Rochester, NY.
Traversing the 8k course at Genesee Valley Park, the Violets' five scorers all finished among the top 13 and accumulated 47 points. NYU trailed only #5 SUNY Geneseo, who boasted the top three finishers and totaled 29 points.
Leading the way for NYU was
Liam Hagerty, who took fourth place in a time of 25:02.7.
The next three Violets all finished in succession, with
Jeffrey Chen (25:14.1) ,
Andrew Taylor (25:14.4) and
Theodore Udelson-Nee (24:14.6) taking 9th-11th, respectively. and placing within five-tenths of a second of each other.
NYU's final scorer was
Alex Hrycysyzn in 13th place at 25:30.2.
Luke Munoz (16th place, 25:33) and
Huckleberry Oakes (19th, 25:43.4) were also top-20 finishers for NYU.
Overall, 27 teams and 187 runners competed.
"The men ran an excellent team race today and executed just as planned running as a unified pack," said Associate Head Coach Nic Jacobson. ."We are looking forward to the national championship next week and capping the year on a high note."
The Violets will indeed have one more opportunity next week at the NCAA Division III National Chapionship, which will be held next Saturday, November 22, at the Roger Milliken Center in Spartanburg, SC.
