New York University men's basketball Head Coach
Dave Klatsky has revealed the incoming class for the 2024-'25 season. The group includes one first-year and five graduate transfers.
In 2023-24, the second year of Klatsky's tenure, the upward trajectory of the NYU men's basketball program continued as the Violets earned a share of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship for the first time in 30 years. The squad posted a 21-6 overall record (10-4 UAA), earned an NCAA Tournament bid for the second straight year and hosted the First and Second Rounds in the brand new John A. Paulson Center.
The Violets knocked out Husson University in the first round before suffering a close loss to Tufts University in the second.
Joining that squad will be six new incoming players:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Henry Bickford | Phillips Exeter Academy (NH) | AAU: Middlesex Magic | Hometown: Needham, MA | 6'5'' F
First-Year Henry Bickford comes to the Big Apple from Needham, MA, and will be joining the roster after spending a post-graduate year at the prestigious Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire. Bickford was a key cog in the group that won the Class A NEPSAC Championship in '23-'24.
Klatsky on Bickford: "Henry is a player who was identified early as someone that would fit our program at NYU. At 6'5", he is extremely versatile. Henry is someone who can play on the interior and also extend the floor and knock down threes on the perimeter. He is a competitor at heart and we can't wait to see him battling opponents with a Violets' jersey on."
Tristan How | University of Virginia | Hometown: Virginia Beach, VA | 6'7'' F
The Violets have dipped back into the ACC for another player (
Michael Savarino of Duke played for NYU from 2022-24). Tristan comes from the University of Virginia, and has been coached by one of the Sports' best defensive coaches, Tony Bennett. The Cavaliers earned back-to-back NCAA Division I Tournament berths in '22-23 and '23-24, and How most recently was awarded the Sidney Young Memorial Award for Excellence by the UVA coaching staff.
Klatsky on How: "The sky is the limit for Tristan. His size, athleticism and physicality will be a problem for opponents on a nightly basis. Tristan can play both outside and inside and will be a major match-up problem. His time at UVA playing for a storied program and coach will no doubt help our program in a variety of ways."
Josh Menard | St. Anselm College | Hometown: Higganum, CT | 6'0'' G
Also from New England, Josh Menard comes to NYU from St. Anselm College in New Hampshire where he experienced a great deal of winning during his collegiate career. He contributed to a program that made back-to-back NCAA Division II Tournament appearances in '21-22 and '22-23, and won the very competitive Northeast-10 title in '22-23.
Klatsky on Menard: "Josh is a combo guard who can score from all three levels. His ability to take care of the ball and make the right decisions are skills that will be much needed. Josh plays the game at a terrific pace and is a basketball junkie. He is a high-IQ player and makes others around him better. We are excited to see Josh flourish as he finishes his career in NYC."
Chuma Oyigbo | St. Michael's College | Hometown: Stoughton, MA | 6'4'' F
Graduate Transfer Chuma Oyigbo comes to Washington Square after completing his undergraduate degree in Computer Science at St. Michael's College in Vermont. He was a member of a roster that went 24-9 and earned a trip to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Division II Tournament last season.
Klatsky on Oyigbo: "My interest in Chuma began almost five years ago when he was a player at Tabor Academy and I was coaching at Colgate. Five years later, we are excited to welcome him to NYU for his final year of eligibility. Chuma is a versatile player who can play anywhere from one through four. His ability to rebound and push the ball will be valuable, but we are also excited about his ability to defend multiple positions."
Jack Stone | Carnegie Mellon University | Hometown: Newport Beach, CA | 6'2'' G
This next player will spark some recognition among those who tuned in for some NYU games last year, as Jack Stone hails from UAA-rival Carnegie Mellon. He has been an integral piece in the Tartans' achieving at a high level, including an NCAA Division III Tournament berth in 2024. Stone garnered First Team All-UAA accolades last season after being recognized as Second Team All-UAA in '22-'23.
Klatsky on Stone: "We are excited to welcome Jack to NYU, mostly because we won't have to play against him two times a year! He brings a maturity and scorer's mentality to the program. Jack's craftiness and IQ have been fun to watch the last few years in the UAA, and we are excited to watch those skills and more in an NYU jersey."
Brock Susko | California Lutheran University | Hometown: Los Altos, CA | 6'4'' G
Changing coasts, Brock Susko attended California Lutheran University where he contributed to a fair share of success. His teams participated in the last two NCAA Division III Tournaments and won the SCIAC Championship for the first time in program history in '22-'23. Susko was a mainstay in the rotation, earning First Team All-SCIAC recognition in '23-24.
Klatsky on Susko: "Brock is a do-it-all type player. He does whatever is necessary to help his team win, which was evident at Cal Lutheran as he helped them to have one of their best seasons in the school's history. Brock's size at the wing will help in all situations. We are excited to see him score, rebound, assist, defend, and do much more come next season."
The Violets open their '24-25 season at home on Saturday, November 9, against Babson College.
