NYU Head Men's Basketball Coach Heads to University of Florida

New York University Head Men's Basketball Coach Dave Klatsky, who led the Violets to the NCAA Division III National Championship Game this year, has left to become an assistant coach at reigning NCAA Division I National Champion University of Florida.

Klatsky served three seasons at NYU, accumulating an overall record of 68-16 (.809). His teams improved every season, going 18-8 in 2022-23, 21-6 in 2023-24, and 29-2 in 2024-25.

The 2024-25 campaign saw the Violets reach the National Championship Game for only the second time in program history, the first since 1994. NYU's 29 overall wins and 13 in the University Athletic Association (UAA) also set team records. The Violets also compiled the most points (2,508) and assists (526) in team annals.

"We're incredibly proud of what Coach Klatsky has accomplished here at NYU," said NYU's Director of Athletics, Jake Olkkola. "Taking our program to the National Championship Game in just a few years speaks volumes about his leadership, intellect, and the culture he helped build."

Nationally, the Violets ranked second in scoring margin (17.0), fourth in field goal percentage (.491), and eighth in three-point percentage defense (.279).

The team's success in '24-25 also resulted in Klatsky being named National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Region IV Coach of the Year, D3hoops.com Coach of the Year, Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) Coach of the Year, as well as UAA Coaching Staff of the Year.

"While we're sad to see Dave leave, we're thrilled he's getting this opportunity to coach at the highest level of college basketball with the National Champion University of Florida," Olkkola added.  "Coach Klatsky will always be part of the NYU family, and we wish him the very best as he takes this next step in his career."

A national search for the next NYU Head Coach is underway.
