The New York University men's and women's track & field teams traveled to Princeton, NJ, to compete in the first day of competition at the Larry Ellis Invitational on Friday, April 12.
Grace Richardson snapped the outdoor program record in the 1,500-meter run with her 8th-place, 4:26.88 finish. Richardson bested Maeve Evans' time of 4:29.19, which was set in 2010. With the addition of the 1,500, Richardson now holds the most program records with accomplishments in the indoor mile, 3,000-meter and 5,000-meter runs, as well as being a member of the indoor distance medley relay record-holding team alongside
Viv Kane,
Beverly Okyere and
Dominga Rivera. Two weeks ago, Richardson also surpassed the previous 10k outdoor record.
Katherine Cochran and
Janie Cooper finished 27th and 28th, respectively, in the event, with Cochran posting a 4:44.24 finish and Cooper crossing the line is 4:44.67. Cooper was less than a second away from establishing a new personal best.
Ryan Tobin achieved an 11-second personal best in the 5,000-meter run with his 14:20.12 finish. Tobin's time today earned him 12th place in the seeded section of the event.
In the unseeded section of the men's 5k,
George Brady notched a 15th-place finish and established a new personal best with a time of 14:49.37.
Emma Grunin earned a fourth place finished in the javelin throw, with a mark of 39.06m.
In her first collegiate 5k on the track, freshman
Morgan Uhlhorn notched an eighth-place finish in the 23-competitor field, with a time of 17:27.00.
Josephine Dziedzic and
Grace Rowley each set new personal bests in the event, with their 15th- and 16th-place finishes, respectively. Dziedzic improved by roughly 32 seconds with her final time today of 17:53.74 and Rowley clocked 17:54.95 for an improvement of seven seconds.
The Violets will conclude competition at the Larry Ellis Invitational tomorrow, April 13, with competition set to begin at 11:30 AM in Princeton, NJ.
