Members of the New York University men's and women's distance squads competed at the Sam Howell Invite Opener hosted by Princeton University on Saturday, March 30.
Of the 12 Violets that competed in the 5k event, nine surpassed their previous personal bests.
Ryan Tobin was the sole Violet to compete in the seeded section of the 5k, posting a 13th place finish, he set a new personal best time of 14:31.23.
In the unseeded section of the men's 5k,
Jeffrey Chen placed fifth, setting a new personal best with a time of 14:46.10.
George Brady followed in 11th place with a time of 14:59.57 and
Shaurya Srivastava took 19th with his 15:25.78 finish.
Directly behind Srivastava in 20th place was
Brandon Meiner with a personal-best time of 15:26.70.
Alex Hrycysyzn rounded out the field for the Violets with his personal-best finish of 15:54.02 to take 24th overall in the event.
Janie Cooper and
Daniela Sekhar took seventh and ninth, respectively, in the seeded section of the women's 5k, each achieving a new personal best. Cooper crossed the line in 17:31.00, while Sekhar finished in 17:45.59.
Lucy Gott took 15th with a time of 17:56.37, while
Olivia Jackson and
Grace Rowley placed 17th and 18th, respectively.
Jackson finished in 17:58.94 and Rowley clocked 18:05.62; both surpassed their previous top times in the event.
Freshman
Josephine Dziedzic finished in 18:25.83 to take 23rd and set a new personal best.
Two Violets competed in the 1,500-meter run:
Dominga Rivera and
Julian Aske.
Rivera notched a 26th place finish, setting a new personal best of 4:49.26 in the process.
Aske took 29th in the event with a personal-best time of 4:03.57.
The Violets will return to action next Saturday, April 6, when they compete in the Metropolitan Championships at Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island in New York City.
