The New York University softball team lost both of its games on Sunday, March 17, in Salisbury, MD.
Both games were highly-competitive, but ultimately the Violets (2-4) fell short against SUNY New Paltz 6-5 and host Salisbury University 6-4.
NYU fell behind 6-0 in the opener, but rallied to pull within a run behind the offensive prowess of
Mia Lemmon. She hit a three-run home run in the top of the fifth and added an RBI single in the sixth following a solo homer by Lindsay Baron.
However, despite putting two runners on in the seventh, the Violets could not plate the equalizer.
In their second game, the Violets jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning. Both
Chloe Stone and
Madi Hand produced RBI singles, while
Lizzy Smith knocked in the other run on a ground out.
The Seagulls tied the game with a run in the second and two in the fifth, but NYU reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the inning on Stone's second RBI single.
NYU starter
Marina Egbert held Salisbury scoreless in the sixth, but she walked two of the first three batters in the top of the seventh. A Seagull single tied the game, a wild pitch put them in front, and another RBI single closed out the scoring.
The Violets will be back in action on Monday when they play a doubleheader against Salisbury beginning at 1:00pm.
