The New York University softball team dropped the opener of a three-game series to the University of Chicago on Friday, May 1, in Chicago, IL.
The Violets got off to a good start by scoring three runs in the top of the first inning, but were shutout the rest of the way and fell 7-3.
Nicole Cicchetti (double) and
Naya Schubel (single) opened the game with hits and both came around to score.
Emma Sung scored the third run of the opening inning.
The Maroons scored their first run in the second inning and NYU held a 3-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth.
However, Chicago plated three in the fifth and added three more in the sixth to post the comeback win.
Cicchetti finished with two of the Violets' four hits.
Olyvia Rutter started for NYU and went the first five innings.
The two squads finish their University Athletic Association (UAA) series with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 12pm (central time).
