Softball Splits Doubleheader Against Farmingdale State

Violets Earn a Win in Game One Against Rams

The New York University softball team closed out its non-conference schedule with a doubleheader split against Farmingdale State College on Wednesday, April 22, in Farmingdale, NY.

The Violets opened the afternoon with a 7-2 win in game one before falling in a 5-1 decision in game two.

In the frontend of the doubleheader, NYU put up its first run of the game in the top of the first on an Emily Barbire sacrifice fly.

One inning later, a Nicole Cicchetti single followed by a throwing error allowed Katie Antosiewicz to score.

Alyssa Quarry then added on with an RBI single in the top of the third. In the bottom of the inning, the Rams got two runs back to cut the deficit to one.

The Violets quickly grew their lead back up to three in the fourth inning with two runs of their own. With the bases loaded and one out, back-to-back base hits by Quary and Siena Kiefer made it 5-2.

NYU added on in the top of the sixth after a pair of errors by Farmingdale allowed two more runs to score.

Olyvia Rutter picked up the win in a complete game effort. She struck out two batters and did not allowed an earned run. Quary batted 3-for-4 on the game with two RBI and a run scored. Emma Sung crossed the plate three times and registered two hits.

In game two, the Rams scored five runs through the first four innings and never looked back.

After plating the first run of the game in the bottom of the first, Farmingdale added two more in the second inning.

The Rams later extended their lead to 5-0 with a two-run bottom of the fourth.

The Violets scored their lone run of the game in the top of the seventh on a Chloe Stone RBI double.

NYU will next take the field on Friday, April 24, against UAA-foe Emory University for a home doubleheader set to begin at 5:30pm.
