Members of the New York University men's and women's distance running squads competed on Friday, February 9, with the women traveling to Boston, MA, to compete in the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center, while the men stayed close to home racing in the 5k at the Ocean Breeze Park Track & Field Athletic Complex on Staten Island.
Sophomore
Andrew Taylor took sixth place and set a new personal best with his 14:51.92 finish in the 5k. Taylor topped his previous best of 15:03.41, which he set at the Widner Final Qualifier last outdoor season, by over ten seconds.
Right behind him, coming off a second-place finish in the 3k at the NYC DIII Invitational, was
George Brady in seventh place. Brady crossed the line in 14:52.87 in his first 5k on the track as a Violet.
Brandon Meiner also took the track for the 5k, taking 29th in the 41-competitor field with a 15:40.65 finish.
In Boston, sophomore
Janie Cooper and freshman
Dominga Rivera took first and second, respectively, in the first heat of the unseeded 3k. Cooper's time put her at 38th overall in the 96-competitor field, while Rivera took 62nd overall.
Lucy Gott clocked 17:49.23 to take 37th in the women's unseeded 5k.
Members of the Violets will compete in a return to the Ocean Breeze Park Track & Field Athletic Complex on Staten Island in the Big Apple Invitational tomorrow, February 10, while
Ryan Tobin and
Julian Aske of the men's distance squad will compete at the David Hemery Invitational in Boston.
