Richardson Snaps 3k Record in Boston

Becomes 3x Program Record Holder; 7th Fastest in DIII History

Late last night, Grace Richardson of the New York University women's track & field team competed in the seeded 3k competition at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational held at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center in Boston, MA.

Richardson's time of 9:27.12 earned her 58th place in the 160-competitor field and snapped the previous NYU program record in the 3k by nearly 15 seconds. The previous record of 9:41.11 was set a decade ago (2014) by Emily Cousens at the Armory in Manhattan.

Richardson's performance in the 3k yesterday earned her the seventh spot on the Women's Division III All-Time Fastest 3k list, placing her in front of #8 Kaitlyn Mooney (9:27.25) of the Coast Guard Academy and behind #6 Fiona Smith (9:25.62) of the College of Saint Benedict.

The top time of 9:13.10, was set on February 2, 2022, and is held by Kassie Parker of Loras College.

Last weekend, Richardson broke the NYU record in the mile at the Scarlet Knight Open hosted by Rutgers University when she finished in 4:49.24 to take sixth overall. Earlier this season, she broke the NYU program record in the 5k with her time of 16:44.20 on the very same track as her 3k record, while competing in the Boston University Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener.

Other team members are in action on Saturday, February 10, competing at the Big Apple Invitational on Staten Island.
