Members of the New York University men's and women's track & field teams competed in the Big Apple Invitational at the Ocean Breeze Park Track & Field Athletic Complex on Staten Island, on Saturday, February 10.
The event, which did not have team scoring, included 12 Violets achieving new personal bests on the track.
Jeffrey Chen took second in the men's 3,000-meter run, crossing the line in 8:31.21 to surpass his previous best of 8:43.54.
In the men's mile, Jorge Rocha topped his previous best of 4:26.97, finishing in 4:24.80 to take eighth in the 65-competitor field. Jake Chang also set a new personal best, coming in 13th with a time of 4:26.22.
Beverly Okyere and Laila Goodman set new personal bests in the 400-meter dash, clocking 1:01.58 and 1:01.59, respectively. Okyere finished in 19th place with Goodman right behind in 20th.
Three Violets set new top times in the 200-meter dash: Emmanuel Brito (22.58), Davis Flanagin (23.05) and Safi Darwiche (23.44).
Jessica Allen achieved a new personal best, finishing the 3k in 11:06.08, nearly 24 seconds faster than her previous time of 11:30.61. Grace Rawley also surpassed her previous best in the event, crossing the line in 10:51.15.
Daniel Lee achieved a new personal mark in the shot put, throwing 10.39m. Nishad Sankar and Dasha Jackson secured 10th-place finishes in the men's and women's triple jump, respectively, with Sankar leaping 13.39m and Jackson marking 10.92m.
Both the men and women's teams are back in action on Saturday, February 24, when they host day one of the UAA Championships at the Armory in Manhattan.
