The New York University men's swimming and diving team kicked off the Phoenix Invitational at the University of Chicago on Friday, November 22.
Ranked #4 in the nation, the Violets had a stellar opening day, finishing in first place with 456.5 points, well ahead of the #2 nationally ranked University of Chicago, which ended the day with 371.5 points.
The evening began with a statement performance in the 200-yard freestyle relay, where the team achieved an NCAA "Q" cut time of 1:21.45, setting the tone for a night of dominance.
Connor Vincent delivered a commanding performance in the 500-yard freestyle, leading from start to finish with a personal best of 4:23.56. His time not only secured victory but also set a new team record and achieved an NCAA "Q" cut.
Maksym Nechydyuk followed with an outstanding swim in the 200-yard individual medley, clocking in at 1:47.19. His dominant performance crushed the field and finished well under last year's NCAA "Q" cut.
The night concluded with the 400-yard medley relay, where the team delivered a spectacular effort. Teddy McQuaid's backstroke lead-off secured an NCAA "Q" cut, while Nechydyuk's impressive 100-yard breaststroke leg highlighted a strong team performance. The relay cruised to an easy NCAA "Q" cut, capping the night on a high note.
"Our team delivered an outstanding performance tonight, with two powerful relays and remarkable individual swims," said Head Coach Trevor Miele. "It was a strong start, and we're looking forward to building on this momentum."
The Violets will return to the pool tomorrow for Day 2 of the Invitational. Swimming events are scheduled at 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM at the University of Chicago.
