Men's Swimming & Diving Complete Fall Invite

Violets Produce Strong Performance

The New York University men's swimming and diving team continued its impressive performance on Saturday, November 2, at the Palladium Athletic Facility, facing off against Stevens Institute of Technology, Drew University, and Columbia University.

Through both days of competition, the #5-ranked Violets maintained a commanding lead in the standings, finishing with 567 points, while Stevens followed with 234 and Drew with 205.

The divers competed on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards.

Freshman Nolan Jennings finished sixth (203.65) in the 3-meter event while William Hopkins and Makai Harder took fourth and fifth, scoring 244.00 and 238.35, respectively.

On the 1-meter, Hopkins continued his strong performance, placing second with a score of 446.10, followed by Harder in third (437.40) and Jennings in fourth (372.45).

"We welcomed the Columbia team, making it an uphill battle, but we competed well for this point in the season," commented Head Diving Coach Todd Kolean. "Freshman Nolan Jennings had a full list of new dives, so I was proud of how he completed them."

The swimming events saw NYU's athletes continue to excel. Sophomore Pierce Downs won both the 200-yard freestyle (1:41.04) and the 100-yard freestyle (45.39). Youngsoo Ahn-Song added to NYU's victories with a top finish in the 100-yard breaststroke at 58.02.

Teddy McQuaid won in the 100-yard backstroke, completing it in 51.15, and the 200-yard backstroke, clocking in at 1:53.48.  Jaeden-Hans Yburan won the 200-yard butterfly (1:53.67).

NYU's 800-yard freestyle relay team delivered a standout performance, winning with a time of 6:55.36.

Among the freshmen, Evan Jue shone in the 1650-yard freestyle, taking first place with a time of 15:52.77. Maksym Nechydyuk also excelled, capturing the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:05.48. Nechydyuk further distinguished himself in the 400-yard individual medley, achieving a time of 3:57.02—an NCAA qualifying cut.

"The men had a fantastic meet. They came in with intensity and absolutely dominated. It's rewarding to see their hard work pay off," said Head Coach Trevor Miele. "We're feeling strong about where we are, but we have a few more weeks of hard training ahead as we move closer to the Phoenix Invitational."

NYU's next challenge will be at the Phoenix Invitational, hosted by the University of Chicago, from November 22-24.
