Men's Cross Country Heading to NCAA Nationals

Violets Earn First Region Championship in 12 Years

The #8-ranked New York University men's cross country team won the NCAA Niagara Region Championship, its first regional title in 12 years, on Saturday, November 16, in Fredonia, NY.

The Violets upset #4-ranked and three-time consecutive region champions SUNY Geneseo by one point (29-30) to notch an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship next weekend.

Liam Hagerty finished first for NYU, third overall with a time of 25:04.8.

A pack of Violets finished in fifth through eighth place, solidifying their victory in the 22-team, eight-kilometer event.

Evan Sherman notched fifth while Jeffrey Chen took sixth, both earning an official time of 25:08.2.

Andrew Taylor crossed the line in 25:08.4 to take seventh and Ryan Tobin rounded out the Violets' top five with an eighth-place, 25:09.3 finish.

The New York University women's cross country team was also victorious at today's championship competition, marking the first time in NYU annals that both cross country teams won regional titles in the same season.

Both the men's and women's teams will return to action next Saturday, November 23, when they travel to Terre Haute, IN, to compete in the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Competition is set to begin at 12:00 PM EST.
