Two Violets Set Personal Bests at Day 1 of The Dr. Sander Invitational

Flannagin Sets PR in the Long and Triple Jump; Sankar in the Long Jump

Members of the New York University men's and women's track & field teams competed in the Dr. Sander Invitational Columbia Challenge, hosted by Columbia University at the Armory in Manhattan, on Friday, January 26.

Freshamn Davis Flanagin had a big day in the pit, recording personal bests in both the long and triple jump. Flanagin leapt 13.26m in the triple jump to secure 11th place. He posted a 25th-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 6.53m. Flanagin also notched a seventh-place finish in the men's 60-meter dash crossing the line in 7.26.

Nishad Sankar topped his previous personal best with a mark of 6.23m in the long jump and recorded 13.56m in the triple jump. Also competing in the pit for the Violets was Isaac Tu (12.82m) and Drew Boyce (12.32m) in the triple jump.

In the 60-meter dash, Matt Marcelo (7.42) and Lincoln Tutor (7.48) finished 10th and 11th, respectively, while Seneca Guneratne and Beverly Okyere posted 8.26 and 8.68, respectively.

Emma Grunin and Daniel Lee represented the Violets in the shot put with Lee securing a 21st place finish with a mark of 10.95 and Grunin taking 29th with a mark of 10.43m.

After day one of competition, neither the men's nor women's team have scored. The University of Connecticut leads the men's field with 55 points followed by North Carolina A&T with 43 points and for the women, the University of Connecticut and Princeton University are tied for first with 30 points each.

Day two of the Dr. Sander Invitational Columbia Challenge begins tomorrow, January 27, at 10 AM at the Armory in Manhattan.
