After defeating all five of its opponents on Saturday, the New York University men's fencing team added one more victory on the second day of the Philadelphia Invitational on Sunday, January 21.
Hosted by the University of Pennsylvania, the invitational featured many of the top teams in the nation throughout all NCAA divisions.
The Violets,
currently ranked #14 in the nation, defeated five ranked opponents on Saturday.
On Sunday, NYU added a victory against #23 Drew University (19-8), but suffered close loses to #2 Columbia University (15-12), #5 Ohio State University (15-12), #15 St. John's University (16-11), and #20 New Jersey Institute of Technology (14-13).
The Violets now sport a 9-6 dual meet record this season.
"We just came up short against some of the toughest programs in the country," said Head Coach
Ben Bratton. "Our matches against OSU, NJIT and Columbia came down to the final rounds. Our fencers should be really proud of the effort, and I think with a little bit more experience those close losses are going to start turning into victories."
The Violets return to the strip when they compete at the Eric Sollee Invitational, hosted by Brandeis University in Waltham, MA, on Saturday, January 27.
