Members of the New York University men's and women's track & field teams competed in the Lions Invitational, hosted by The College of New Jersey at the Armory in Manhattan, on Friday, January 12.
Two Violets achieved new personal bests at the competition as Michelle Uvieghara surpassed her previous shot put mark of 11.58m, reaching 11.59m. Isaac Tu also set a new personal best in the long jump, jumping just under a meter more than his previous best of 12.29m to secure seventh place overall and lock in at 13.23m.
Kate Walsh finished third in the long jump with a mark of 5.22m and Nishad Sankar secured eighth place in the triple jump with a distance of 13.14m.
Four Violets made their debuts in new events: Nikhita Bolineni (8.79) and Davis Flanagin (7.24) in the 60-meter dash, Safi Darwiche (6.35m) in the long jump, and Nabeel Elsanousi (1.72m) in the high jump.
Flanagin's 7.24 finish earned him fourth place in the unseeded section of the men's 60-meter dash.
The Violets will return to action on Friday, January 19, as they travel to the Ocean Breeze Park Track & Field Athletic Complex on Staten Island to compete in the NYC Gotham Cup.
