Eight New York University student-athletes have been recognized by the United Volleyball Conference (UVC) for All-Academic Team honors, it was announced on Wednesday, June 28.
This marks the UVC's 10th year of acknowledging academic excellence. To be included in this prestigious list, recipients must have maintained a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.30 after the conclusion of the spring semester. Additionally, student-athletes must be at least sophomores academically, exhibit positive behavior both on and off campus, and be enrolled full-time at their respective member institution.
As a whole, the NYU men's volleyball team compiled a 3.54 GPA, which was third-highest in the UVC.
Among this year's recipients is
Gautham Dasari, a senior who led the team in kills per set with an average of 3.54. His sophomore cousin,
Sachin Dasari, was also honored. He contributed a season-high 36 digs against Hunter College on January 31.
The group of sophomore honorees also includes
Buddy Cohen,
Ry Kagan,
Brian Kellogg, and
Zach Knudsen. Alongside their impressive academic performances, these individuals showcased remarkable skills on the court. Cohen excelled in blocks, leading the team with 71. Kagan recorded a season-high 14.5 points against Elmira College (February 19), Kellogg totaled season-highs of 5.5 points and four digs against Hunter (January 31), while Knudson excelled on defense with a team-leading total of 225 digs.
Also among the honorees are juniors
Ryan Li and
Brian Luu. Li led the team in assists with 678 and Luu achieved season-highs of four digs and two assists also against Hunter.
The Violets posted a 12-10 overall record in 2023 and were
ranked #13 in the final season American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Poll.
