Four members of the New York University men's volleyball team have been selected for the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-American Teams announced on Monday, April 20.
Freshman Charlie Clifford was named AVCA Newcomer of the Year. Emerson Evans picked up First Team recognition, while Clifford, Bennet Tchaikovsky, and Devyn Nguyen garnered Second Team honors.
In his first collegiate season, Clifford was strong in the Violets' attack. He led in service aces (26) and was second in kills (295) and kills per set (3.17). In the United Volleyball Conference (UVC), he was in the top-five in both kills and total points. Clifford was the UVC Rookie of the Year, was a two-time UVC Rookie of the Week, and was named the AVCA Region II Rookie of the Year.
Evans led in kills (359) and kills per set (4.13). He also led the UVC in Kills (359) and total points (411). The junior outside hitter was named the UVC Player of the Year, earned back-to-back UVC Player of the Week recognition in February, and claimed AVCA All-Region II honors.
Tchaikovsky led the UVC in digs (260) and digs per set (2.77), and was named the conference's Libero of the Year. He was also named to the AVCA All-Region II Team.
Nguyen helped the Violets' offense with an average of 10.27 assists per set, totaling 924. He ranked second in the UVC in assists (924).
