Men's Volleyball Falls In Season Finale

Violets Defeated by SUNY New Paltz

The New York University men's volleyball season came to an end with a 3-0 loss to  SUNY New Paltz in the NCAA Division III Tournament on Friday, April 17, in Springfield, MA.

The Hawks swept the Violets taking the sets 28-26, 25-15, 25-18.

The first set was a close one as neither team led by more than three points at any point.

"We came out, played really well with a new lineup," said Head Coach Jose Pina. "They started putting pressure on the service lines and that allowed them to separate themselves from us."

An ace from Charlie Clifford opened the first before the teams went on to tie 16 times. Tied 13-13, a 5-1 scoring run allowed the Violets to open up their lead, 17-14.

The Hawks caught up at 21-21, and after trading points back and forth, took the set 28-26.

The Violets fell behind early in the second set and never found the lead.

Trailing, 16-6, BoJameson Ebeling and Emerson Evans dished up kills to battle back, but the Hawks managed to hold the lead through the set.

NYU got ahead to a 5-3 lead in the third set with a block from Krish Vasan and Evans. A 6-1 scoring run helped New Paltz pull ahead, and although the Violets brought it within one off of three kills from Ebeling, the Hawks took the final set.

Ebeling led the Violets in kills with 12 and added two aces. Clifford notched nine kills while Evans and Jerry Feng each tallied four.

"I'm just so proud of our group for being here today," said Evans. "For showing up, and putting everything we had into this game. I think there's a bright future for this team."

The Violets finished the season 19-7.
