Members of the New York University's men and women's track & field teams traveled to the Tom Farrell Classic hosted by St. John's University in Jamaica, NY, on Saturday, May 6.
The women's team finished in second with 11 points and there was no team scoring on the men's side.
Kicking off the day for the Violets,
Viv Kane took first in the women's 1,500-meter run and finished nine seconds in front of the next competitor with a time of 4:38.06
Matthew Oluwole cleared 1.95m in the high jump, earning him first place and tying his best mark which was set on March 4 at the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference Championships.
Aminata Johnson also posted a first-place finish with a personal-record-setting time of 2:16.00 in the 800-meter run.
Janie Cooper notched sixth (2:22.34) in her first 800-meter outing as a Violet.
In the long jump,
Kate Walsh clinched second place by leaping a season-best 5.34m.
Zion Glover took third in the 100-meter dash and fifth in the 200-meter dash with times of 11.26 and 22.85, respectively.
Lucy Gott finished fourth in her first 1,500 as a Violet (5:05.79) and
Sam Frank set a new personal best with his sixth-place (4:23.35) finish.
Both
Areyanna McCarthy and
Fiona Kelleher took fourth in their respective events. McCarthy cleared 1.45m in the high jump and Kelleher crossed the line in 1:10.61 in the 400-meter hurdles.
The Violets are back in action next Saturday, May 13, when members of the team travel to the Widener Final Qualifier in Chester, PA, and the Lee University Last Chance Meet in Cleveland, TN.
