Members of the New York University men's and women's track & field distance squads traveled to Chester, PA, to compete in the Widener Final Qualifier on Monday, May 15.
Aminata Johnson and
Jon Diaz competed in the 800-meter run and were the first set of Violets to top their previous personal bests. Diaz finished eighth with a time of 1:50.88 and Johnson took 10th finishing in 2:14.83.
In the 1,500-meter run,
Viv Kane crossed the line in 4:29.43 to take second in the 30-person field and achieve a new top time. On the men's side,
Ryan Tobin (3:54.42) and
Jorge Rocha (4:04.41) finished 22nd and 69th, respectively, in the 100-person field. Rocha's time today surpassed his previous best which he set earlier this season at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships.
Three Violets competing in the 5k set new personal records:
Mubeen Zainul (14:51.96),
Andrew Taylor (15:03.41) and
Shaurya Srivastava (15:05.21).
Hannah Marin finished in 18:46.21 and
Jeffrey Chen notched a 15:08.45 finish.
The men's and women's track & field teams return to action on Wednesday and Thursday, May 17-18, when they compete at the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Championships hosted by Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, PA.
