New York University's men and women's track & field teams competed at the Metropolitan Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island in Manhattan, on Saturday, April 8.
The women finished seventh with 41 points, while the men took eighth with 30 points.
The women's 4x100 relay squad of
Lola Akindele,
Kate Walsh,
Summer Reid and
Isre'al Conerly broke the outdoor program record with a 49.30-second finish, besting the mark set in 2016 by .01 seconds.
Nathalie Shoji finished first in her first pole vault appearance this season, vaulting 3.00m and earning the Violets 10 points.
In the 5k,
Mubeen Zainul crossed the line in 14:56.62 to take third overall and beat his previous top time by 30 seconds in his first outdoor track competition this year.
Jon Diaz and
Ariya Mathrawala set new personal bests in the 1,500-meter run. Diaz finished in 4:03.2 and Mathrawala finished in 5:03.52.
Three Violets competing in the 100-meter dash achieved new personal records:
Emmanuel Brito (51.29),
Austin Cabanban (51.44) and
Sagar Sharma (53.07).
The men's 4x400-meter relay team consisting of Diaz, Cabanban, Brito, and
Zion Glover took fourth place in 3:27.55.
On the field side,
Kate Walsh marked 5.24m and placed fifth in the long jump, achieving a new best in the process.
Dasha Jackson and
Areyanna McCarthy took sixth and seventh, respectively, in the triple jump. Jackson marked 10.97m, while McCarthy went 10.80m.
Emma Grunin took fourth and set a new personal record in the javelin, throwing 31.55m.
Matthew Oluwole (1.85m) and
Oliver Fideler (12.98m) placed sixth in the high jump and triple jump, respectively.
The Violets are back in action next weekend, Friday and Saturday, April 14-15, as team members will travel to both the Silfen Invitational hosted by Connecticut College and the Larry Ellis Invitational hosted by Princeton University.
