The New York University men's and women's track & field teams concluded this weekend's competition at the Colonial Relays hosted by the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, VA, and at the Ramapo College Invitational in Mahwah, NJ, on Saturday, April 1.
Ending the day in Mahwah, the women took sixth place with 49 points and the men finished in 11th with 31 points.
The women's 4x100-meter relay team, consisting of
Summer Reid,
Isre'al Conerly,
Kate Walsh, and
Lola Akindele, kicked the day off in New Jersey with a second-place finish crossing the line in 50.26. Reid also placed second in the 100-meter dash, clocking 12.67.
Freshman
Matthew Oluwole took third place in the high jump, leaping 1.85m.
Four Violets placed within the top 20 out of 61 competitors in the men's 1,500-meter run:
William Pelech (4:09.10) at eighth,
Jake Chang (4:12.68) at 10th,
Brandon Meiner (4:17.85) at 13th, and
Benjamin Haber (4:17.85) at 20th.
In the women's 200-meter dash,
Lola Akindele and
Kate Walsh secured new personal records, posting 26.80 and 27.98, respectively.
All three NYU competitors in the women's 400-meter dash walked away with new personal bests:
Kamila Sanusi (1:01.12),
Sehyr Patel (1:02.53) and
Alegra Reinhold (1:06.70).
In the shot put,
Emma Grunin and
Daniel Lee achieved new top marks. Grunin recorded 31.76m, while Lee recorded 32.98m.
In Virginia, four Violets competed:
Hannah Marin (39:46.48) and
Daniela Sekhar (41:06.33) in the 10k,
Jon Diaz (1:54.52) in the 800 and
Oliver Fideler (13.19m) in the triple jump.
The women finished 25th with three points scored by
Viv Kane in Friday's 5k. The men did not score.
The Violets are back in action next Saturday, April 8, when they compete at the Metropolitan Championships at Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island.
