Select members of the New York University's men and women's track & field teams concluded their indoor season at the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference Championships held at the New Balance Track & Field Center at the Armory in Manhattan on Friday and Saturday, March 3-4.
A number of athletes set new personal-bests and scored for the Violets as the women's team took 13th with 15 points and the men's team finished 15th with 14 points.
Jon Diaz's first-place finish in the 800-meter run (1:55.14) gained 10 of the Violets' points.
Katherine Cheng and
Leah Haley topped the personal records they set earlier this season in the mile with a third and fourth-place finish, respectively. Cheng crossed the line in 5:07.94, while Haley posted a 5:08.72 finish.
Matthew Oluwole topped his previous best mark with a fifth-place finish in the high jump, leaping 1.95m.
In the women's 800-meter competition,
Aminata Johnson took eighth place with a personal-best time of 2:19.62, while teammate
Lucy Gott (10:20.99) earned a career best in the 3,000-meter run.
Freshman
Jeffrey Chen notched a fifth-place finish in his heat, 16th overall, to earn a new personal-best in the 3,000-meter with a time of 8:43.54.
"It was a really great way to conclude the indoor season," said Head Coach
Tyler Deck Shipley. "We had several PRs and showed lots of promise as we build for the outdoor season."
The NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships are still in reach for one Violet,
Grace Richardson. Richardson's 17:07.06 finish in the 5,000-meter competition at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational currently
ranks her at 19th in the event. The top-20-ranked individuals in each event qualify for the national competition in Birmingham, AL, on Friday and Saturday, March 10-11. Final determinations for the championship meet are announced following this weekend.
The entirety of New York University's men and women's track & field teams will return to action at the Monmouth Spring Opener in West Long Branch, NJ, on Friday and Saturday, March 24-25.
