Members of the New York University's men and women's track & field teams traveled to the Colonial Relays hosted by the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, VA, while other team members traveled to Mahwah, NJ, to compete at the Ramapo College Invitational on Friday, March 31.
The Violets are on the board in New Jersey with the men in ninth place with five points and the women in 11th with two.
Hamza Mankor finished fifth in the 5k crossing the line in 15:56.77, which earned the Violets all five of their points.
Coleman Ruiz topped his previous personal best in the 5k by 27 seconds finishing in 16:26.10.
Michelle Uvieghara, hot off of last weekend's record-setting discus performance, finished ninth and scored all of the women's two points with a 10.57m mark in the shot put.
In Virginia, freshman
Viv Kane returned to action after suffering an injury during this fall's cross country season. She returned to the track with a seventh-place finish in the seeded 5k, clocking 17:10.28, while numerous Violets achieved new personal bests.
Ryan Tobin and
Jeffrey Chen set new personal records in the 5k. Tobin finished in 14:32.70 in the seeded 5k, while in the unseeded 5k Chen finished in 15:10.77 surpassing his previous record by 27 seconds.
Aminata Johnson took ninth in the 800-meter run with a personal-best time of 2:17.62.
In the 1,500-meter run,
Katherine Cheng set a new top time of 4:49.06, while on the men's side freshman
Andrew Taylor finished first for the Violets in 4:02.57.
The women currently hold 25th with three points earned by Kane and the men's team have yet to score.
Competition continues for the Violets tomorrow April 1, both at the Colonial Relays and the Ramapo College Invitational.
