New York University's men and women's track and field teams competed at the Seamus McElligott Invitational on Saturday, January 28, at the Alumni Field House on the Haverford College campus in Haverford, PA.
The women notched a number of top finishes, beginning with
Dasha Jackson finishing with a time of 9.89 and placing third in the 60-meter hurdles.
The success continued with
Summer Reid, who finished with a time of 8.29 to place second in the 60-meter dash.
Isre'al Conerly placed third in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:02.96.
On the field end, freshman
Areyanna McCarthy placed first in the triple jump achieving a 10.72 meter mark.
For the men, freshman
Emmanuel Brito took first in the 400-meter run with a time of 52.01, while his freshman counterpart
James Thompson was right behind him in second place with a time of 52.61.
The Violet men's 4x400-meter relay consisting of
James Thompson,
Austin Cabanban,
Zion Glover, and Brito took first overall with a time of 3:31.96.
A pair of athletes competed at the Dr. Sander Columbia Challenge on Friday and Saturday at The Armory in Manhattan. On Friday,
Oliver Fideler competed in the triple jump notching a top jump of 13.27 meters, while on Saturday,
Jon Diaz finished the 800-meter run in a time of 1:57.13.
There was no team scoring at either meet.
Associate Head Coach Michael Roberts believes "the athletes are beginning to approach competition with confidence both mentally and physically. As we continue to move throughout the indoor season, we feel very confident that the program is heading in the right direction."
Both the men and women's teams return to action on Friday, February 3, when they host the NYC Division III Invitational at The Armory in Manhattan.
